Abbotsford Lodge

Challenges:
  • To provide fast, stable and secure wireless access to both guests and staff of the lodge

  • Securely segregate the administrative network from the guest network while allowing both to share the same internet connection

Solutions:
  • We arranged for a professional cabling contractor to survey the property and install cabling

  • We installed an enterprise grade wireless solution, comprising multiple managed access points and a fully managed switch

  • High-capacity access points were deployed to the administrative areas

  • Standard access points serviced the remaining guest areas

Testimonial:

Overview

Abbotsford Lodge is a guest house in Callander, located within the Abbotsford Lodge Logo 420 x 230 px.jpgLoch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Dave and Dina, took over the ownership and running of the Abbotsford Lodge in November 2015 and immediately set out to upgrade the facilities for their guests. With social media playing such a huge role in their business referrals, they wanted guests to have the best digital connectivity possible, regardless of their remote location.

The Challenge

Internet access ranged between very poor and non-existent, mainly due to the depth of the walls in this grand Abbotsford Lodge. No cabling had been installed previously. The lack of good quality Wi-Fi meant that visitors were standing in the garden looking for a signal so that they could make and receive phone calls, send or receive emails and texts, or upload their photos onto social media.

While ensuring that visitors had access to WiFi was important, the security of the administrative network was also paramount.

The Solution

We were asked to consult and then brought in, initially to install structured cabling and business grade wireless equipment, including a wireless access point for each room, and a new router. We also suggested that they separate the business internet network from the guest network for business security and continuity reasons.

We arranged for a professional cabling contractor to survey the property and work with the owner to install the necessary cabling with as little disruption and visible impact as possible.

The we installed an enterprise grade wireless solution, comprising multiple managed access points and a fully managed switch. High-capacity access points were deployed to the administrative areas while standard access points serviced the remaining guest areas. This allowed the staff to take advantage of near-wired speeds when accessing internal resources without a major increase in the cost of the project as a whole.

Summary

This project has allowed staff to take advantage of near-wired speeds when accessing internal resources without a major increase in the cost of the project as a whole. At the same time visitors can enjoy the trappings of modern day living in an idyllic setting.
